pREPARING FOR AND RESPONDING TO DisasterS

Philanthropy and grantmakers play a critical role in supporting communities to prepare for, respond to and help communities recover from disasters and major events, alongside other partners and collaborators.  Here we highlight the learning and experience of philanthropic funders in Aotearoa to support efficient and effective giving in this area.

NEW RESEARCH PROJECT

Philanthropy New Zealand | Tōpūtanga Tuku Aroha o Aotearoa (PNZ) has embarked on a new research project that will collect learnings from recent environmental events and explore the support that philanthropic funders and community grantmakers would benefit from into the future as they work with communities to reduce risk, prepare for, respond to, and recover from these events.  The study will also result in us being able to update our PNZ Readiness, Response and Recovery guide.

We are very pleased to be working with researchers from the Joint Centre for Disaster Research (JCDR) at Massey University who are undertaking this study.  And we are extremely grateful for financial support from the following funders to enable us undertake this work for the sector: Auckland Council, Foundation North, Eastern & Central Community Trust (on behalf of the Hawke’s Bay Funders Forum), Trust Waikato, Clare Foundation, and Rotorua Trust.
